The project pursued an organic continuity with the past by respecting the building's architectural image and clear distribution.
The main concern was the preservation of the environmental, natural and spatial values of the historical complex by creating an environment that conveys tradition, hospitality and privacy in a sober, elegant and essential atmosphere.
The restoration and interior upgrade design relied on non-invasive solutions and technologies to entirely preserve the suggestive space and place quality of Palazzo Castelli Visconti di Modrone.
The project has enhanced the quality of the outdoor spaces ‒ courtyard, garden and terraces ‒ and the presence of green at the various levels of the building. The facade is set back at the fifth floor and a new terrace is introduced on the perimeter to emphasize the presence of green even on the roof.
The renovation design has adopted different strategies of sustainability provided by technological innovation and has used them in a quiet and efficient way to achieve a high environmental comfort and protect natural resources.
A high energy efficiency class (class B) has been achieved by integrating the efficiency of the building envelope and technological systems; by reducing primary energy demand and emissions with the introduction of groundwater reversible heat pump groups; by adopting active and passive systems to reduce usable energy requirements; and by implementing various measures to optimize water management and protection of water resources.
