The Church of Cristo Re is a visual and mnemonic reference, a relevant and connotative presence of a specific place, in an urban context that in these years is radically transforming in destinations and forms.
From the beginning of the design process, it was immediately evident the importance of the church, its morphological structure and its location in the area, its Mannerist architecture, the quality of materials and construction.
These aspects have structured the design choice on the preservation of the church and its valorization: the interventions reconvert its spaces integrating them to the hotel program for a significant characterization of hospitality.
The spaces of the church, for the particular volumetric qualities and for the stylistic figurations, are reinterpreted and functionally converted for the access and the main activities of the hotel. All services, logistics, conference areas, restaurant and rooms are realized in new buildings connected and related to the church to form a morphological unit with a unitary architectural image.
The figurative proposal is not simply derived from the existing building; the project wants to indicate a value of expressive multiformity, a poetic propensity, which bases their choices on cognitive reasoning: the relationship with history, tradition and with the city.
