Office building in Broletto Street
Milan, Italy
2014
realized
The project summarizes some interventions to enhance the historical complex located in Milan’s historical center, at the corner of via Broletto and via Porrone.
The main focuses were the redefinition of building’s morphology and the refurbishment of its courtyards, such as the historical one, located on via Porrone which is now occupied by the 60’s built two storey parking structure.
The demolished surface is transferred at the fifth/sixth floors in a new building unit fronting on via Broletto.
The existing courtyard is redeveloped as a garden and made visible and accessible from Via Broletto.
The 60’s clinker and stone façade were replaced by a glass and steel skin with a rhythmic vertical development,in order to guarantee best brightness to workspaces.
A close attention was paid to the historical façade of listed building: the rhythmic vertical development, read in the original façade, is defined by a sequence of glass blades; the horizontal order of the new facade follows the original building’s frame and contribute to its overall coherence.
