Variant of mountain pass
Bologna - Florence highway
Entrances to tunnels
2008
On charge of SPEA Autostrade spa, responsible of the executive planning and work direction some Variation of Mountain Pass along the highway A1 in the Apennine path between Bologna and Florence, the architectural concept has been defined for the two entrances of the so-called one "gallery of base."
It was therefore considered appropriate to characterize the two entrances north and south of it, with a solution that underlined the importance of it.
The operated choices want also underline the tectonic value, of excavation, of the work: the overlap of layers patchy of concrete with inactive of different heights, dimension and color simulate the geologic stratification of the territory that the gallery crosses; the base buttresses to triangulate, with the alternatively turned point toward the sense of march, strongly rooted in the mountainous buttresses, they want to mean the non ephemeral value but of "permanence" of the infrastructure, and at the same time they return a fleeing perception and dynamics of the entrances, whose image inusuale persists in the memory and becomes therefore recognizable symbol of the whole motorway line
